What if you get the ability to examine your entire body inside out? With the Redmi Watch 2 Lite, that kind of power is quite literally in your hands.
Gone are the days when a smartwatch was meant just for counting footsteps besides notifying you the second, minute and hour of the day. Today, smartwatches are built such that not only do they track your heart rate and oxygen levels, but also provide you with a detailed inside-out view of your body by tracking the slightest movement you make. Ranging from checking the number of standing sessions you incurred in a day to monitoring your pace, cadence and speed at each mile that you cover on foot while conducting complex outdoor activities, smartwatches have come a long way in becoming a true healthcare companion of ours. And the latest in line is Xiaomi’s Redmi Watch 2 Lite whose detailed review we have provided below.
Yes, we know that you have to think at least twice before making a 4 digit sum investment into a wristwatch. So that you don’t have to separately take out time and spend your valuable energy and resources into gathering crucial working knowledge of the same, we have brought to you a complete inside-out review of the brand-new Redmi Watch 2 Lite.
Starting from the very beginning, the Redmi Watch 2 Lite comes in a square box packaging that has a clever structure. Inside the box, you will find the TFT LCD black glossy display driven smartwatch quietly waiting for you to pick up and bring to life. The main watch body is supported by two smooth blue rubber straps holding it from both sides. Apart from the smartwatch , the package also consists of a magnetic two-pin charging wire with a USB port type at its other end (without the adapter), and a user manual.
Once you pick up the smartwatch, you will notice a small metallic function button on its right side. Flip it around and you will see the heart rate sensor right at the centre of its back, mounted on a shiny black raised rectangular platform. Just about a centimetre below it lies the tiny contact points for its magnetic charger. Moreover, at the beginning of either side of the wrist straps, you will find two small rubber buttons pressing which you’ll be able to pull and detach the straps from the main body of the watch . Yes, its straps are detachable.
You switch on the Redmi Watch 2 Lite by pressing and holding the function button on the right side of its body frame (as mentioned before), for about 5 to 10 seconds. The size of the display screen is about 1.55-inches with a resolution of 360×320 pixels and a 311-pixel density. To tell you, you would have to first download the Xiaomi Wear/Wear Lite app on your smartphone and then scan the bar code displayed on your smartwatch’s screen through your phone. This will help you better manage your Redmi smartwatch by connecting it with your smartphone so that the two are combined into a single unit.
To connect your Redmi smartwatch with your smartphone, Bluetooth connectivity would be required. Once connected, you can access all your smartwatch applications, reports and records of your own activity through the Xiaomi Wear app on your smartphone itself.
Upon bringing it to life, you will observe the Redmi Watch 2 Lite’s display background or the theme to be black in colour. The colours are vivid and bright, with the per-page on-screen space being simple and elegant in design. However, it may take you a while to decipher the meaning of each icon and the stats it is representing.
Overall, the display and design of the Xiaomi Redmi Watch 2 Lite looks simple yet modern and elegant.
Before coming on to its applications and performance, let us elaborate a bit more on the technical specs of the new Redmi Watch 2 Lite. The smartwatch, which comes with body dimensions 1.62 x 1.39 x 0.42 inches, is 35g in weight and supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. Additionally, it is equipped with GPS, accelerometer, heart rate, gyro, compass, and SpO 2 sensors. It has a Li-Ion 262 mAh non-removable battery, which can last up to 6 days upon mediocre daily usage or up to 10 days upon mild usage. It takes about 2.5 hours to get charged via its magnetic charging cable and if plugged in a wall socket. It is also waterproof, but up to 5ATM.

The home screen appears after a single click of the side function button. On the home screen is displayed the time at the top, below which you can see your active kcal measure, the number of steps you take on a daily basis, along with the battery percentage. All three are colour coded and on their right side is displayed a rainbow-like meter displaying the same information graphically with respective colour codings, for easier understanding.
Click the function button twice and the applications menu appears on the screen, consisting of apps to help you monitor each health or fitness function separately, like Workout, Activity Log, Heart Rate, SpO 2 , Alarm, Stopwatch, Compass, Flashlight, Settings, and much more. If you swipe left to right or from right to left on the home screen, widgets along with any recent applications or health stats that you recorded will get displayed. Swiping up from the bottom on the home screen will open the control panel while swiping down from up on the home screen will display notifications for you. Swiping left to right on any screen other than the home screen acts as a back button on the Redmi smartwatch.
The Redmi Watch 2 Lite offers you loads of applications to monitor a wide range of activities, ranging from walking, running and cycling to swimming, jump rope, trekking, hiking and much more. Moreover, it also allows you to add or subtract any item from the list of options already provided to you.
What is one of its cool features is that in case you are taking a walk down the road wearing your Redmi Watch 2 Lite, it automatically detects the same and asks you whether you’d like to record and measure your fitness stats related to walking or not. If you agree, then after your walking session, you are provided with a detailed report mentioning the distance you covered, time taken, total calories burned, active calories, your pace, speed, number of steps taken, cadence, stride, heart rate graph and much more.
Similarly, taking another such example, if you chose to jump rope one day, your jump rope report will include detailed metrics on the number of jumps you made, the time taken, your heart rate and even your jump height. And on another side note, in case the smartwatch detects very low calories have been burnt in a workout session, it also asks you whether to scrap that session’s records or not. Cool isn’t it?

However, the accuracy of certain metrics like the number of steps taken, etc. can be improved a bit more. Also, it has been noted that in case you want to measure your O 2 stats, you would have to keep your wrist extremely still and wait for about 10-15 seconds, otherwise, the smartwatch won’t be able to represent the same record for you.
Another cool feature that the Redmi Watch 2 Lite provides you with is its camera function. Now, the smartwatch isn’t equipped with a camera or speakers or anything of the sort. However, if you pair it with your smartphone, you will be able to control the shutter button of your smartphone through your smartwatch’s camera application. Hence, you can click as many selfies or groupies as you like, without the hassle of enabling the camera timer! Other tools that the Redmi smartwatch offers include a flashlight, alarm, stopwatch, reminders et al.
Finally comes the time to give the verdict. In case you are an individual who is very particular about the accuracy of the health and fitness metrics provided to you, we would then recommend you to assess other smartwatch options. However, in all other cases, at its current price of Rs 4,499, we would definitely give you a go-ahead to invest in the Redmi Watch 2 Lite. Keeping your health at its preference, the all-new Redmi smartwatch is going to be that healthcare companion of yours, which will wrap its arms around you before an actual healthcare professional does in time of need.
