Why?Because they are not as compact as a turbo and there is usually a bit of space between the cylinders at the "caps" where the compressor can fit.Another factor related to this is reliability.This is disproportionately higher, because compressor rotors rotate in the vast majority of cases in ball bearings.And another thing - heat.The turbo works with very hot gases leaving the engine, the compressor has to cope mainly with the heat it generates itself, which is really not such a drama.Sure, the internal combustion engine, which is usually quite close, heats it up a bit, but it's nothing terrible either.The speech of a car with a supercharger is, let's say, more "dignified" than in the case of a turbocharger.The main advantage here is on the side of the compressor, which works all the time.At low and high revs and increases the pressure very gradually.The turbo needs to be regulated in various ways, the compressor does not need anything like that.This is also why the power curve is mostly quite linear and rises somehow more disciplined.The compressor loses only at high revs, where the turbo has the upper hand, because it does not take away the engine's power.I like itThe author of the article is Jakub MokříšDF SOLUTIONS, s.r.o.
