In an operation against illegal mining in the municipality of Sutatausa (Cundinamarca), the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR) through its Integrated Environmental Governance Unit (UIGA) imposed a preventive measure consisting of the suspension of activities at a mine exploitation and extraction of mineral coal that did not have an environmental permit.The operation took place in the village of Peñas de Boquerón, El Manzano property, where the Corporation, in the company of the Army and the Police, witnessed the operation of machinery for the exploration and extraction of underground mineral coal in flagrante delicto.“During the diligence we found five workers inside the mine entrance.After the discovery, we imposed the preventive measure of suspension of activities since it did not have an environmental license issued by the Corporation”, said Clara Álvarez, leader of the UIGA of the CAR.Among the machinery identified by CAR officials, a winch, a metal pressure tank and two screw compressors were found, equipment used for the extraction of mineral coal, which were seized by the entity."We also found an engine, presumably a tractor, suitable to allow access and exit of either ore or elements that are used for internal maintenance of the mine," said Álvarez.According to the Corporation, the production of charcoal affects soil, air, flora, and water resources, since various pollutants such as mercury, lead, sulfur dioxide, and carbon dioxide are expanded in the combustion process.© 2022 PortalNews.co - All rights reserved.
